In this role, you will :

  • Implement CRC activities as per plans including capacity-building activities meeting the Disaster Risk Management needs of Indigenous populations.
  • Contribute as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the implementation of actions addressing emergency response systems for Indigenous communities, considering the commitments within the CRC Indigenous Peoples Framework.
  • As required, participates in the launch and/or management of CRC emergency response operations; virtually and/or in community.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the quality-of-service delivery and make recommendations on ways to adjust plans to optimise its response to cultural considerations and community priorities.
  • As required, collaborate with the Creating Safe Environments (CSE) - Help Desk team and other internal partners to plan and coordinate various Help Desk activities within the geography.
  • Support the orientation of personnel on cultural safety and background on Indigenous communities within the geography.
  • Perform administrative duties, which may be complex and/or confidential.
  • Maintain status updates, relevant tracking logs and timelines, and key project deliverables and milestones.
  • As required, participate in the launch and/or management of CRC response operations, virtually and/or in community.
  • Contribute to relationships with Indigenous leadership and structures to support achievement of priorities in ways that promote local leadership action and capacity.
  • Collaborate with Operations management to evaluate the quality-of-service delivery and make recommendations to adjust the operation plan to optimise its response to cultural considerations and community priorities.

What we are looking for :

  • The ideal candidate has lived and/or professional experience with First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis nations or communities.
  • Active in broader Indigenous networks and has an enduring commitment to sharing and advancing of knowledge derived through Indigenous knowledge systems including balancing Western and Indigenous world views.
  • The official languages recognized within the Canada Red Cross are English and French however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in an or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocols is highly desirable.
  • The minimum qualifications for this job are a university degree, and 5 years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience including working with Indigenous communities.
  • Proven experience in emergency/ disaster environment.
  • Proven program design, management, and delivery experience in a complex environment essential.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and an understanding of cultural issues, specifically traditional Indigenous beliefs and practices related to reducing disaster risk and climate adaptation.
  • A valid driver's license is required with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
  • Proven experience in community engagement programs including creation and delivery of events/workshops.
  • Experience in analyzing and synthesizing data to use it for reports and/or proposal writing.
  • Strong facilitator including virtual modalities.
  • Flexibility and ability to work with ambiguity/in a fluid work environment.

Working Conditions :

  • Travel is required including the ability to deploy within 48 hours notice.
  • Field missions can involve working in environments that are unstable and unpredictable requiring very strict adherence to security regulations and with limited access to basic services and will require working non-traditional hours and therefore, a demonstrated ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions is required.
  • When outside of response/deployment this position will work remotely and/or from a home environment.
