We are currently looking to fill the position of Managing Director to join our Scott McCain & Leslie McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health team.

The Scott McCain & Leslie McLean Centre at Saint Mary's University strives to produce, enhance and deliver research and community outreach initiatives with an emphasis on socially responsible approaches to sport in the fields for business and health. We are currently seeking an individual with a research-based Master's degree in the sport sector or other relevant field or with comparable experience to fill the position of Managing Director at the Scott McCain & Leslie McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health.

Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director, Scott McCain & Leslie McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health, the Managing Director will:

  • Oversee regular Centre operations by activating the strategic plan under the direction of the Academic Director, engaging in reporting and program evaluation, creating and managing a budget and finances, facilitate Centre participation in activities that align with its mandate and meet regularly with Centre personnel, Senior Management, and key stakeholders and/or partners. Maintains consistent email correspondence and other forms of communication on Centre business and signs off on financial forms such as invoices, honoraria, contracts, and reimbursements while reviewing accuracy of financial statements.
  • Consult with the Academic Director and Senior Management with a view to increasing the organization's operations and impact beyond the current strategic plan, while remaining up to date on industry trends for socially responsible approaches to sport through the lenses of business and health. Attend informative conferences and seminars and develop ideas for sustainable revenue generation.
  • Supervises employees, collaborators, affiliates, and volunteers or oversees their supervision by other Centre personnel, including assigning tasks and/or delegates responsibility with input from the Academic Director and Associate Vice-President, Research.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Managing Director you will have:

  • A relevant research-based Masters degree with a focus on sport is preferable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge development through continuous education and certification
  • Minimum of five years of management or leadership experience
  • Evidence of an existing network in the sport industry and an understanding of industry trends
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team and develop talent across an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with different individuals, groups, and audiences
  • Responsible decision-maker with above-average interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills with a proven commitment to quality assurance and accuracy
  • Active listener and consensus-builder with an ability to manage and respond to multiple and varied stakeholders and audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Previous experience with business administration and community outreach are all considered assets
  • Previous experience working in a post-secondary setting is an asset
