Salary range: $46,690.30 to $54,832.37 annually (salary will be pro-rated based on months worked)

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing...

  • The Achieve program uses a student-directed model of delivery to further prepare students for life after high school. Working with the principles of person-centered planning ooutcomes support growth and self-determination, wellness, and employability and community engagement. As a member of the Achieve team this position will support the development of relationships and interdependence of Achieve students at home, work and in community.
  • Learners in the Achieve Program take part in college life and experience hands-on activities and workshops in this transition program. They are guided through a person-cantered process of developing personal goals and action plans for employment, independent living, and social networking. Classroom and campus experiences create a foundation for learning essential & employability skills. Applied learning experiences on campus and in the community provide job shadowing, and work experience. The Achieve Program not only helps students transition to employment but in some case NSCC core programs.
  • The Program Assistant supports the Achieve Coordinator and/or Employment Specialist in the daily activities of working with and supporting students to achieve the program outcomes.
  • As a member of the Achieve Program team you will work closely with employers, the business community and service providers. You will also provide support and guidance that will enable Achieve students to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for independent living.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant college diploma in social services or a related discipline.
  • You have experience and/or certification in adult education would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.
  • You have demonstrated experience working with individuals with social and emotional issues and working with employers and supporting young people with disabilities in developing life skills and transitioning to independent living.
  • Occupational experience that includes supporting the facilitation of workshops or small groups.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, e-mail, X365, assistive technology programs, iPad, and Smart Phones.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology, and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
