JOB PURPOSE

This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the surgical optimization of adult patients. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including, but not limited to, health assessments and diagnosing diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current registration in good standing with the Association of Registered Nurses of New Brunswick and a current Nurse Practitioner license are required.
  • Valid Driver's License – travel to Miramichi Regional Hospital 2-3 days a month
  • A minimum of five years recent clinical experience in the last seven in primary care or adult acute care is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
  • Possess strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilizing the standards of excellence for Total Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Surgery, the Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the members of the interdisciplinary team, and Orthopedic Surgeons to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the surgical preoperative education and optimization program for patients awaiting orthopedic surgery.
  • The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive education, evaluation and follow-up care to preoperative orthopedic surgery patients; will promote surgical optimization and preventative health care practices and assist patients and families in adapting to the required treatment and lifestyle changes.
  • Care to clients is delivered in an ambulatory outpatient setting.
  • Client assessments may be completed in person or via virtual healthcare solutions. It will include individual assessments and potentially delivery of service in group settings.
  • The roles and responsibilities in this position may expand in the future to other surgical services, within the scope of practice for a nurse practitioner.
