Our client, the City of Moncton, is seeking a dynamic and skilled Senior Planner to join their team on-site.

Reporting to the Manager of Long-Range Policy Planning, this senior position involves overseeing key planning initiatives, including the implementation and updating of the Municipal Development Plan and other complex area-specific plans. The role requires a strong understanding of urban design, land use, and sustainability, as well as the ability to lead public engagement efforts and collaborate with various stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply provincial legislation, policies, and regulations, along with Municipal Development Plan policies, Zoning By-laws, Subdivision By-laws, and Controlled Access By-laws.
  • Lead and coordinate the review and updating process for Municipal Plans and Zoning By-laws, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Oversee and manage public engagement and consultation processes for major planning initiatives and zoning by-law reviews.
  • Monitor the implementation of the Municipal Development Plan, preparing updates and adjustments as necessary to address evolving needs.
  • Track and respond to emerging planning issues that impact the city, developing strategic responses to these challenges.
  • Serve as a key resource for major Downtown developments, ensuring projects align with the vision and urban design objectives outlined in the Municipal Plan.
  • Lead the development of Neighbourhood Plans, Secondary Municipal Planning processes, and other complex area-specific land use plans.
  • Facilitate the creation of urban design guidelines in designated areas to support the broader goals and objectives of the Municipal Development Plan.
  • Provide educational and informational materials to decision-makers and the public on community planning and sustainable development best practices.
  • Act as a resource on various Departmental Boards, Committees, and Working Groups, including those focused on Sustainable Transportation, Heritage Preservation, and Climate Change Mitigation.
  • Assist in the preparation of terms of reference, requests for proposals, and the selection of consultants for projects related to the Municipal Development Plan.
  • Support community strategic planning initiatives by helping develop vision statements, goals, objectives, and action plans, and assisting with the implementation of sustainable community development projects.

Experience and Qualifications

  • You hold a Graduate or undergraduate degree in planning from a recognized professional planning school.
  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably working with larger urban centre municipalities with experience in a broad range of projects.
  • Bilingualism (oral and written) in both official languages is required.
  • You are a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of planning legislation and the Community Planning Act, with the ability to perform related legislative functions.
  • You have proven expertise in community planning principles, methods, and procedures and an awareness and understanding of community planning and development issues.
  • You are technically focused, an analytical problem solver and possess strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • An effective communicator, you have the ability to work collaboratively in a customer-oriented environment, while confidently engaging with municipal officials and business leaders.

This is a full-time position based in Moncton, NB operating during regular business hours from Monday to Friday. However, work outside these hours should be expected.
