Job Summary
As part of the regional Promotion & Prevention Team, the Addictions Prevention Consultant will provide advanced leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating specialized mental health promotion and addictions prevention initiatives across the life span. These initiatives will be designed to prevent and reduce the harms and injuries associated with substance use, gambling and to promote mental wellness and health equity. The Addictions Prevention Consultant will assess community needs, research appropriate initiatives, and work with various stakeholders to facilitate the development of local and regional addictions prevention and mental health promotion partnerships/networks. The Addictions Prevention Consultant will also collaborate with the primary health care programs and link with other wellness/health promotion consultants in other NLHS Zones to develop and evaluate provincial addictions prevention and mental health promotion activities. Travel throughout the eastern region will be required. Other related duties as required.
This position operates within a changing environment where health is monitored and influenced by current research practice in health promotion, population health, health and social policy, and health and social service delivery systems.
The Addictions Prevention Consultant may be required to adjust hours on occasion to facilitate activities outside of regular hours of work. This position reports to the Program Manager for the Prevention and Promotion Team.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, or a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology or a related Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline, such as Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, or a related degree is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience out of the last five (5) years working in the Mental Health and Addictions field, with a focus in Health Promotion, including experience utilizing a health promotion framework to inform policy changes and develop initiatives to enhance population health outcomes, is required.
Strong knowledge of health promotion strategies and theories, population health approaches, harm reduction, and the social determinants of health.
Knowledge related to the Mental Health and Addictions field, including current issues, best practices, programs and services, and community resources.
Knowledge and experience in program planning, implementation, evaluation, research methods, project management, and community development.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge and proficiency in the MS Office Suite of computer software.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated high degree of interpersonal effectiveness, good judgment, creativity, adaptability, and commitment to teamwork.
Demonstrated project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to stay current on relevant clinical, evidence-based practice to enhance and support program planning, development, and evaluation within the service area.
Ability to manage continuous improvement and quality processes.
Ability to foster and promote a safe and healthy workplace.
Ability to build networks and manage relationships with internal and external partners.
Current membership/registration with a relevant professional association is required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
