The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) is dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in reaching their full economic development potential through advocacy and networking. JEDI invites applications for the position of Client Coach in Fredericton. Reporting to the Information Technology (IT) Project Manager, the Client Coach will be responsible for IT program participant recruitment and retention activities and for the delivery of impact-rich, engaging pre-employment training to meet the needs of the participants. This will include providing practical guidance and support in the exploration of career choices and the development of job search and workplace skills to become job ready.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver the IT program's employability skills curriculum, materials and resources to coach and support IT program participants in their journey towards future employment in a positive and engaging experiential environment.
  • Provide career counselling, employability sessions, resume writing and interview skills training, and job search methods in individual and group settings.
  • Connect with potential employers to promote the availability of work-ready Indigenous clients.
  • Perform assessments and skills analysis to recruit and retain participants, assisting them to explore career options and towards the development of customized action plans.
  • Actively support, mentor, and motivate participants through the program to build confidence and to help them with the timely completion of their learning goals.
  • Provide empathetic, insightful, constructive, and informative feedback to participants.
  • Keep current with the local area labour market trends and with relevant stakeholders and support agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (such as Education or Employment/Guidance Counselling) with experience in career development, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of First Nations history, communities, culture and social concerns. Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous descent.
  • Familiarity with the IT industry and related stakeholders is a strong asset.
  • Experience using motivational and action techniques to manage the progression of participants towards career path identification and opportunities.
  • Possess, or have the ability to develop, an understanding of local and regional labour markets and support agencies.
  • Excellent communications and leadership skills with proven ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • A practical understanding of employment recruitment and selection processes.
  • Proficient in administrative, organizational, and digital literacy skills including MS Office.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
  • Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.
