Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Manager, Alumni Relations, specific responsibilities of the Alumni Officer include:

  • Collaboration with departments and campuses to promote, support, and advance alumni and community relations opportunities.
  • Supporting communications and marketing strategies through content creation, and event promotion.
  • Planning and supporting a wide variety of events to reach different audiences.
  • Developing and leading a sponsorship strategy for alumni events and initiatives.

The Alumni Officer is an integral member of the NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations team and responsible for developing and delivering strategies to build awareness, interest and engagement for the Alumni Program, and College at large.

As an enthusiastic and organized relationship-builder and communicator you will contribute to the planning and execution of alumni programs, communications, events, and initiatives designed to enhance and strengthen the relationship between NSCC and its over 100,000 alumni.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a college diploma or university degree in communications, public relations, event management, business or marketing.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a post-secondary, fundraising, or a not-for- profit environment with a focus in event planning, communications and relationship-building.
  • You have specific experience engaging and working with stakeholders, data management, social media support, sponsorship, and event planning.
  • You have prior experience as an engaging presenter and writer.
  • You have experience managing projects and volunteers.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and e-mail.
  • You have some graphic design experience with Adobe InDesign and/or Canva.
  • You have experience working with a CRM.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology.
  • You possess a valid NS Driver's License.

  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to event planning, vendor management, sponsorship requests, strategic communications, and event promotion.
  • You have strong project management skills with the ability to produce, lead and guide a project as well as provide post-project and event reporting and recommendations.
  • You show a strong understanding of the positive impact NSCC alumni have across the province and in their communities.
  • You are highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are an effective and engaging communicator with the ability to generate and maintain relationships with all levels of internal partners, alumni, industry, donors, staff, students and the general public.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and on cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to identify and describe issues, present solutions and work with others to implement them
