The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Structural Geologist to join our Project Development team in Toronto.

This is a permanent hybrid position.

As a Senior Specialist, Structural Geologist, you will provide technical services on Capital Projects, demonstrate knowledge about key components of structural geology and interact with related disciplines. With your experience and skills, you will lead the creation of structural models for FEL Study project teams and ensure that a high-level quality of geological structural data is acquired, validate processing and interpretations and deliver recommendations to reduce the risks associated with forecast grade continuity, geotechnical/ground instability hazards, and water ingress prior to execution.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Responsible to execute and/or review technical work as it pertains to structural geology models and any impact on mineral resource estimation on FEL projects globally.
  • Responsible to provide support to FEL study teams in preparing scope of work and reviewing technical documentation to support Structural Geology studies.
  • Accountable to develop the appropriate Structural Geology Standards and Programs to meet all legal, Vale Base Metal's internal governance standards and industry best practices for all Capital Projects.
  • Identify critical geological structures/geotechnical domains that may cause instability and hazards to propose excavation by working collaboratively with the project team and ensuring mitigation measures are included in future plans.
  • Responsible to define the appropriate drilling program for advanced projects to collect the required structural data.
  • Responsible to perform due diligences on databases and geological block models for acquisitions, as required.
  • Support technical work on mineral resource estimation on FEL 2 and FEL 3 projects, as required.

About You

Education:

  • A master's and/or Ph.D. degree in Geology/ Structural Geology is required.
  • P. Geo Certification is required

Experience:

  • A minimum of 11 years' relevant/related experience.

Skills:

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain effective and engaging conversations and trust with all Project Management to become integrated within the teams.
  • Good initiative, attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Open minded and encourage knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in structural geology field mapping, including in complex geological settings
  • Expert knowledge and experience in developing advanced 3D structural/geological models and robust analysis and interpretation of structural geology data.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in identifying adverse geological structures in seismically active deep underground mines.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in analyzing and interpreting complex structural geology data, including the rock formations, faults, and folds; and seisimic data.
  • Knowledge and experience of mine engineering planning (Deswik) software.
  • Knowledge and experience in analysis of Acoustic/Optical Televiewer data.
