Requirements:

  • Certified Engineering Technician (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • 3-5 Years of relevant experience in building inspections.
  • Valid Class V Driver's License.
  • Ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of building construction, the NBC, and other regulations applicable to the position.

Are you passionate about ensuring that construction meets the highest standards of safety and compliance? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a knack for problem solving? If so, we want you to join our team as a Building Inspector! Reporting to the Manager of Building Inspection, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and integrity of our community's construction projects. You will assist with customer service, perform plan examinations, and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs and relevant regulations. Your expertise will help facilitate successful construction practices, mediate disputes, and help enforce by-laws, Acts and Regulations with a focus on positive customer service.

What You'll Do:

  • Work rotationally at the building inspection counter to provide top-notch customer service, review permit applications, and support general office functions.
  • Interact with design professionals, contractors, and the public to address inquiries related to NBC, by-laws and other regulations.
  • Examine plans for compliance with NBC and applicable legislation.
  • Issue building permits and conduct site inspections to verify conformance with approved plans and handle related enforcement as necessary.
  • Administer and enforce building by-laws and other pertinent legislation.
  • Collaborate with other authorities and departments to ensure efficient processing of permits and adherence to residential maintenance and occupancy regulations.
  • Utilize computer systems as an integral part of daily tasks and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

What You Bring:

  • Enthusiastic team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills focused on exceptional customer service. Ability to maintain accurate records and demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of building construction, the NBC and related regulations. Proficiency in computer applications is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively in challenging situations, communicate clearly, and establish cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to utilize technology and foster partnerships that lead to effective problem solving and decision making.
