Position Summary:
The Ocean Startup Project is seeking a dynamic and experienced Marketing and Communications Director to join our team for a 19-month full-time contract covering parental leave. The ideal candidate will have a passion for ocean-related industries, a background in marketing, business, journalism, or a related field, and a strong understanding of the tech/innovation ecosystem in Canada. This role is fully remote, and the candidate must be located in Canada. Bilingualism (French and English) is considered a strong asset, as all marketing efforts are conducted in both official languages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Website Management: Update and maintain the Ocean Startup Project website
- Social Media Management: Develop and execute social media strategies across various platforms to engage our audience and promote our initiatives - Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Youtube.
- Events and Program Launches: Plan, coordinate, and execute marketing campaigns for new and existing events/program launches.
- Graphic Design: Create visually appealing graphics using Canva or InDesign.
- Content Creation: Write and create engaging content, including startup profiles, program and event descriptions, media releases, and other copy.
- Video Creation: Produce and edit engaging videos to support marketing campaigns and initiatives.
- Media Relations: Manage media inquiries and build relationships with media outlets to enhance the organization's visibility.
- Partner Relations: Maintain and develop relationships with partners to support collaborative initiatives.
- Other Duties: Perform other related tasks as needed to support the Project's marketing and communication efforts.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience in marketing, business, journalism, or a related field.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the tech/innovation ecosystem in Canada, with a preference for experience in ocean-related industries.
- Skills:
- Proficient in website management using software such as WordPress.
- Experienced in social media management and content creation.
- Skilled in graphic design using tools like Canva or InDesign.
- Proficient in video creation and editing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
- Strong media relations and partner relationship management abilities.
- Language: Bilingual in both English and French is considered a strong asset.
- Location: Virtual, but must be based in Canada.
- Availability: Flexible working hours with availability for meetings during standard work hours.
