Regional Physical Activity Consultant (RPAC)South Shore Region

Contract Position: term position until 31st March 2027 (with potential to renew)

This is an employment partnership between the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (Communities, Sport and Recreation Division) & Recreation Nova Scotia.

Scope: The Regional Physical Activity Consultant will be responsible for providing support and leadership to address inactivity by contributing to improvements in population levels of physical activity and a culture of movement within the South Shore Region of Nova Scotia. This position will advance selected priorities from the Let's Get Moving strategy for Nova Scotia and aligned regional opportunities.

Responsibilities include: To advance regional and provincial priorities that contribute to population level change in physical activity; use approaches and strategies that are informed by Let's Get Moving Nova Scotia, and reflect regional opportunities, capacity and community member needs; build capacity among diverse stakeholders and physical activity leaders within the region to strengthen the delivery of physical activity interventions and strategies; facilitate and support initiatives that encourage movement that can be easily incorporated throughout the day in small amounts at a minimum (e.g. active transportation); enable the development, implementation and evaluation of whole of community comprehensive strategies designed to build vibrant communities through encouraging movement; advance policy and environmental approaches that will increase opportunities for Nova Scotians to move more and that complement sport and recreation for all approaches; apply an inclusion lens with a focus on equity deserving groups and those who are less active (e.g. aging population); facilitate opportunities for physical activity and movement by influencing key settings where Nova Scotians spend their time (workplaces, communities, schools); coordinate and support administration of Active Communities Fund at the regional level.

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years' experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of promoting physical activity at the population level, including awareness of national, provincial, regional and local issues, initiatives, trends and information sources, pertaining to physical activity and sedentary behaviour; practical understanding and knowledge of community development principles and approaches; experience in engaging diverse partners and stakeholders and supporting communities and groups; demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in grant administration; strong facilitation, communication and public presentation skills; ability to search and apply literature/research to inform work and identify best practices; ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.; knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion and access; ability to apply best practices working in cross cultural situations; knowledge of the recreation, sport and physical activity delivery systems in the province.

Compensation: Based upon a salary scale ranging from $49,220 to $60,776 depending on experience.

The position is hosted by Recreation Nova Scotia with funding provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCTH). The consultant will be based in the CCTH office in Lunenburg. (flexible work options to be negotiated).

Term: To start as soon as possible, term until 31st March 2027 (with potential to renew).
