The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Auditor to join our Internal Audit team in Toronto.

This is a permanent hybrid position, with travel requirements to other Vale sites 1 week per month.

As a Senior Auditor, you will carry out audit examinations through the evaluation of internal processes, in accordance with moral and ethical standards, with the international standards required for the profession, acting in compliance with Vale's key values and behaviors and the Internal Audit Policy. Your experience and skills will add value and support the Board of Directors, Audit Committee Board, Fiscal Board, in addition to the Vice-Presidency with information on the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance, practiced by Vale Group Companies in Brazil and abroad.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of control and governance levels of processes related to operations, finance, taxes and the environment, through the assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, integrity of operational information and compliance with laws, regulations, contracts and standards internal affairs, as well as the assessment of the preservation and protection of assets, people and the environment, in the various segments of the Vale Group, based on a risk-focused approach.
  • Ensure compliance with the established audit program, considering the appropriate approach in accordance with International Standards, Audit Policy and internal standards and procedures, supported by moral and ethical values.
  • Ensure adequate communication and maintain supporting audit documentation, sharing this information with the audit team and the three lines of defense when requested, paying attention to necessary confidentiality.
  • Ensure that the conclusions arising from audit examinations are reflected clearly and objectively in the reports, ensuring the adequacy and reliability of information based on the knowledge and technical procedures applied.
  • Contribute to the department's internal projects, such as development, evaluation and review of internal audit procedures, work programs and area indicators (including analytics), support in the interpretation of internal and external regulations, as well as carrying out consultancy and consultancy, as long as it does not compromise the necessary independence of the audit function as a third line of defense.
  • Communicate and present the results of audit examinations to the various hierarchical levels of the Vale Group's three lines of defense, including governance bodies such as the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, Fiscal Council and Vice-Presidency.

About You

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field (ex: Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business) is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years' relevant/related experience.

Skills:

  • Good analytics skills and ability to gather insights based on data analysis tools.
  • Good communication skills to deal with a myriad of topics, organizational levels, and present results of audit engagements.
  • Empathy to understand deviations root causes and engage people to improve their own control environments.
  • Good understanding of basics risk management, internal controls and enterprise process (logistics, HR, Procurement, Financials, etc. - not as an expert in subject matter)
  • Knowledge of dominate lifecycle of audit engagements - from planning to fieldwork, down to reporting the findings
