JOB PURPOSE

The Dietitian is responsible for managing the nutritional care of clients. The Dietitian on the Provincial Paediatric (Autism and Neuromotor) Tertiary Team has a trifold mandate: providing education to clients and therapists throughout NB; conducting research; and providing highly specialized consultation, treatment and assessment to children with significant nutritional, feeding and swallowing needs throughout NB.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition or dietetics and successful completion of an accredited internship program.
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Dietitians and have progressive related work experience in which leadership ability and competency as a Dietitian have been demonstrated.
  • Paediatric neurological experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dietitian is responsible for:

  • Providing clinical guidance to all paediatric teams across the province with respect to paediatric clinical nutrition best practices
  • Consulting and guiding dietitians throughout NB on the quality and safety of paediatric clinical dietician service delivery
  • Liaising with other departments and agencies on behalf of individual patients and on behalf of the clients as a whole population group
  • Providing tertiary level support, guidance, assessment, and consultation on-site and at patient's homes, schools and other health care facilities throughout NB
  • Directing, and overseeing the provision of primary, secondary and tertiary dietetic services in the province for children with neurological impairments
  • Teaching and other professional development activities related to feeding and swallowing for children with neurological impairments
  • Developing and/or ensuring compliance with Acts, Regulations, standards, policies and procedures
  • Participating in training dietetic interns, clinical dietitians, and other staff
  • Performing the work of a dietitian
  • Assessing, planning, and providing tertiary level therapy to clients, families, educators, and clinicians
  • Maintaining and directing clinical records and documentation
  • Participating and leading tertiary interdisciplinary care planning
  • Facilitating interprovincial care transfers
  • Preparing and presenting information and education sessions throughout the province and country
  • Providing mentoring and support for students and new-to-practice dietitians
  • Participating in developing, maintaining and evaluating policies and procedures
  • Supervision of professional and support staff
  • Provide guidance, training and orientation to other Dietitian staff
  • Developing and/or ensuring compliance with acts, regulations, standards, policies and procedures
  • Performing duties of a Dietitian 1
