As part of the Pension & Benefits team, the Pension & Benefits Specialist is accountable for the maintenance, research and recommendations for a comprehensive, cost-effective benefits program that meets the current and emerging needs of a diverse group of employees. This position regularly works with benefits carriers and pension providers on behalf of employees for accelerated investigations or inquiries. In addition, this position is the lead on administering various leave plans.

Key functions include:
• Responsible for the day-to-day functions of processing benefits, retirements, and leaves and ensuring excellent customer service is provided to the employees of NB Power. This includes ensuring correct interpretation of policies, collective agreements, and documentation for the various benefit and leave programs.
• Maintenance and research for all healthcare and insurance benefit programs, along with overseeing the auditing of existing programs. This includes ensuring adherence to benefit contracts, maintaining employee communication documents, performing annual renewals, reviewing of current contracts and identifying required amendments.
• Administer the various leave programs available to NB Power employees and ensure adherence to contracts, policies and multiple collective agreements.

Our ideal teammate will have:
• University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
• Eight years of experience in Human Resources and/or relevant field, including experience in Finance, Project Management, or Policy
• Preference will be given to those with experience administering large benefit and/or pension programs
• Intermediate proficiency with MS Office Excel and/or Human Resource Information Systems
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Highly proficient in interpreting legal documents such as collective agreements, policies and contracts
• Highly proficient in analytical processes, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification would be considered an ASSET

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
