Northwood is currently accepting applications for an Occupational Therapist to join our team at our Bedford Campus.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia
  • Minimum of one year of relevant work experience
  • Long term care experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with wheelchair/special equipment is considered an asset
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or have established eligibility
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates abilities in working with the geriatric population, team building, conflict resolution, decision making, managing change, and group process
  • Ability to lift and transfer up to 44lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis according to Northwood's corporate standard

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and conducts OT programs to help residents
  • Performs resident wheelchair seating assessments and prescribes mobility equipment to promote comfort and function.
  • Participates as a member of our wound resource team and provides interventions and recommendations as indicated.
  • Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
  • Participates in resident care responsibilities to promote independence in daily living skills, communication, mobility, and socialization
  • Evaluate residents and prepares reports detailing progress
  • Completes and maintains necessary records (e.g. work statistics, referrals)
  • Trains caregivers on how to provide for the needs of a resident during and after therapy
  • Conducts assessments of individual resident's functionality within their environments
  • Conducts assessments of equipment, architecture, and other barriers in individuals' home settings and makes recommendations as necessary
  • Works with residents to set goals, plan, and implement interventions, and evaluate results
  • Writes and submits funding requests
  • Conducts inventory of wheelchair equipment, obtains estimates, and requests funding for wheelchair repairs for residents
  • Performs other related duties as required

Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly - Days
