Description

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB) is a medical regulatory authority that, by authority of the Medical Act, 1981, serves and protects the public by regulating the practice of medicine in the province. With over 20 employees and over 2000 licensed physicians, the CPSNB is currently seeking a Registration Agent to work in a role to support and further the CPSNB's mandate.

Reporting to the Director of Registration, the incumbent will work Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Flexibility in hours may be required at specific times and may include evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

The Registration Agent is responsible for tasks related to processing applications for registration and licensure and annual licensure renewal and the issuance of certificates of professional conduct. All staff of the CPSNB will be held to the highest standards of ethical behaviour and integrity.

Below is an outline of key responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Conduct oneself honestly and ethically in business dealings and when handling confidential information
  • Work in accordance with the CPSNB's mission, values, mandate, and goals
  • All staff of the CPSNB are required to adhere to CPSNB policies.
  • Assess the credentials of physicians applying to licensing and registration
  • Issue Certificates of Professional Conduct
  • Prepare and send annual physician registration renewal packages - including processing of payments and sending receipts and following up on outstanding receivables
  • Ensure compliance with registration conditions and restrictions
  • Maintain the Register for all physicians, medical students and physician assistants and provide reports as requested
  • Consult with Director of Registration to engage legal advisors concerning jurisprudence affecting registration and licensure as needed
  • Develop and distribute relevant statistical information related to registration / licensure
  • Support the Registration Committee, the Review Committee and other committees as required
  • Maintain and update database
  • Answer phone and email questions relating to registration and licensing
  • Work with provincial Colleges, Medical Council of Canada, hospitals and government regarding physician licensure
  • Provide organizational support to the CPSNB as needed

Required Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education with training in administrative practices or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience working in an office-based environment, providing support relevant to duties of this position
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and database management systems
  • Previous experience dealing with patients or the public is an asset
  • Relevant experience in registering individuals into a regulatory body or like entity is an asset

  • Excellent editing and proof-reading skills
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills
  • Ability to interpret, research and apply complex standards to provided information
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanour during busy or stressful times
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in recognizing scope of authority and protecting confidential information a must
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Team player who can also work independently and take initiative
