POSITION: Maintenance Worker I
STATUS: Permanent Full Time
DEPARTMENT: Facility/Maintenance
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM including week-end shifts
RESPONSIBLE TO: Facility/Maintenance Manager
POSTING DATE: September 5, 2024

POSITION SUMMARY:

Within a team environment, the maintenance worker will perform a wide variety of tasks that collectively will assist the Facility/Maintenance Manager in ensuring the smooth, safe operation of the physical facility. Performs preventative maintenance to ensure the operation and maintenance of all facility equipment using an electronic maintenance system.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

1. A certificate from a one-year community college technical trade in one of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing, refrigeration or building systems.

2. Preference will be given to a candidate with current maintenance related experience preferably in a health care environment.

3. Knowledge or basic understanding in a variety of building systems (mechanical, painting, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc).

4. Familiar with applicable facility policies and procedures and provincial regulations ie. WHMIS, Fire Code, National Building Code, Joint Occupational Health and Safety, etc.

5. Basic computer skills, experience with an electronic work order system and working knowledge of building automation systems (ie.METASYS).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain in good operating condition heating, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, glycol system, whirlpool, fire alarm system, sprinkler systems and other service equipment.

2. Perform all major and minor repair of equipment and furniture i.e. nursing call systems, beds, lifts and wheelchairs.

3. Action all preventative maintenance orders according to priority of request.

4. Maintain complete and accurate logs including a daily log. Record all equipment repaired and parts replaced into the maintenance care system.

5. General building maintenance tasks including painting, yard work, snow removal, garbage disposal, door locks, ceilings, roof, minor electrical, plumbing, flooring, drywall repair, install toilets, sinks, taps, etc.

6. Provide facility manager with required information to order tools, replacement parts and equipment as needed.

7. Must be a team player and able to follow verbal and written instruction, work independently, prioritize tasks and make sound judgment.

8. Must be able to relate to our residents and work cooperatively with staff in various departments.

9. Must perform work and assignments safely and efficiently.

10. Must be reliable and dependable, in good physical and mental health and physically able to perform the duties of the position.

11. Must be responsive to 24 hour emergency call-backs as determined by the maintenance department.

SALARY RANGE: $22.72 to $23.10 per hour
