OMISTA is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Head Office Team!

THE POSITION

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Senior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and a keen interest in leveraging data analytics to drive financial insights and decision-making. This role will involve a blend of traditional accounting duties and advanced data analysis, playing a crucial part in the financial health and strategic direction of the Credit Union.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare, analyze, and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and compliant with relevant accounting standards.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Data Analytics: Utilize data analytics tools to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to improve financial performance.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the Credit Union's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Audit Support: Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits, ensuring that all financial records and processes are thoroughly documented and up to date.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to understand their financial needs and provide them with the necessary data and insights.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and enhance financial reporting capabilities using technology and data analytics.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Qualifications:

  • Education: College diploma or university degree in Accounting. CPA Designation preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a credit union or financial institution setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills. Experience with data analytics tools is highly desirable.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and completeness.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being able to work independently and take initiative.
