In this role, you will :

Responsibility 1 - Revision and Terminology

  • Reviews and proofreads material translated by follow team members or external providers.
  • Revises translations against the source text with regards to accuracy, style, target audience, format, and terminology consistency, ensuring that the client's requirements are met.
  • Leads the revision efforts on specific large-scale projects, as assigned, to ensure overall quality and consistency.
  • Seeks feedback from clients and shares comments/recommendations with the translators for the purposes of continuous improvement.
  • Assist the Translation Services management in training and mentoring fellow translators. Provides instructions and guidance to fellow translators on context, procedures, style standards as well as specialized terminology.
  • Researches terminology related to assigned projects and supports the creation of internal glossaries and terminology, based on reputable sources.
  • Assists in maintaining the translation memory by uploading finalized projects, ensure proper filing, cleaning archived items to remove outdated material, fixing issues of alignment, etc.
  • Answer language-related questions from clients and translators.

Responsibility 2 - Translation

  • Translates, mainly from English to French, in a timely manner, a variety of material including web content, internal and external communications, presentations, training manuals, procedures, etc.
  • Produces high quality translations in accordance with style standards and terminology in use at the Canadian Red Cross.
  • Completes assigned projects in a timely manner, according to the priorities, deadlines and production schedule established by Translation Services management, and reports on progress and status of work.

Responsibility 3 - Support to Translation Management

  • Provides occasional back-up to Translation Services management for the intake, recording, coordination and scheduling of translation requests.
  • Coordinates outsourcing with external vendors as required.
  • Provides timely updates to clients on project status and progress.
  • Addresses client questions and concerns.
  • Assist with the development of internal processes and tools to ensure that service levels are met.
  • Act as the Translation Services on-call point-of contact on a rotational basis during weekends.
  • Occasional requirement to work additional hours during emergencies.

What we are looking for :

  • Post-secondary education or diploma in Translation or in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in translation from English to French.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in French and English. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software as well as translation memory software (e. g. LogiTerm).
  • Excellent customer service and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Must be flexible and motivated, with a proven ability to multi-task and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.

  • Work is conducted in a clean and comfortable environment in a virtual capacity.
  • During times of response flexible hours may be required.
