Role Description
Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Senior Estimator will play a key role in assessing the costs, resources, and time required for a wide range of projects. Through careful analysis of project requirements and the use of estimation techniques to determine the likely expenses and duration of a project, the Senior Estimator will contribute to informed decision-making and successful project execution. In this role, you will also develop lasting relationships with industry vendors and suppliers and provide support and mentorship to the team of Estimators working underneath you.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Review and interpret complete tender packages, including drawings, specifications, and addenda;
- Prepare complete and thorough cost estimates for complex projects, including quantity take-offs for all project and labour components;
- Prepare project schedules with a suitable level of detail that ensures a full understanding of the resource and time commitments required to execute the project, and demonstrates to the client a thorough understanding of the project and the schedule offered with the proposal and costing;
- Negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for all project requirements;
- Review pertinent portions of tender packages with the quality department, production department, legal department, insurance providers, and other parties as necessary;
- Consult the in-house Drafting Manager to obtain man-hours for drafting;
- Prepare and submit proposals, quotes, and lead letters as required;
- Follow up on bids, inputting any obtained information into the estimating database;
- Participate in weekly estimating meetings, reporting on the status of in-process as well as won/lost estimates;
- Maintain updated records on all in-process estimates;
- Review contracts and/or purchase orders, cross-referencing with proposals, prior to accepting an award;
- Prepare the contract, profile, and tender review forms when successful on a bid;
- Assemble pertinent information packages to be turned over to relevant project management staff.
Qualifications

You take great pride in your work and have demonstrated experience successfully completing estimates on large and complex construction projects. Your qualifications include:
- 10+ years of relevant estimating experience in the construction industry, with preference given to those who have experience with steel/bridge/structural projects;
- Post-secondary education in a relevant construction-related discipline (i.e., Engineering or Construction Management);
- General civil construction knowledge, including an understanding of plans, specifications, methods, and procedures;
- Extensive knowledge of the principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures;
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite of applications for project estimating purposes;
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, under tight timelines, in a fast-paced environment;
- Effective problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication and leadership skills (verbal and written), to effectively support the estimating team and work with suppliers.
