Senior Engineering Manager, XVA and Market Data Technology

Purpose

Leads and oversees the engineering team developing the XVA platform. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Leads and drives development of the global XVA platform. The incumbent facilitates the setting of priorities and driving delivery through a team of engineers located in Canada and Colombia.
  • Keeps bank safe. Maintains and updates XVA platform technology stacks to continue providing competitive advantage to the business as well as keep bank compliance with software currency.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in building applications using Java, Spring, SQL and Caching, with expert engineering knowledge and experience of complex systems design.
  • 5+ years experience in Elastic Search, Kafka, Docker or similar container and orchestration platform, familiar with web application development concepts.
  • Expect knowledge of cloud technologies, designed complex systems on public cloud infrastructure like Azure or GCP.
  • Expert knowledge of data models and analytics, with strong understanding of SQL concepts, database design and modeling, performance analysis and optimizations.
  • Strong understanding of system security concepts and tools.
  • Familiar with Linux commands and general troubleshooting in a Linux environment
    Familiar with DevOps automation tools like ansible, puppet etc.
  • Solid leadership skills with excellent collaboration skills, ability to negotiate and build rapport with senior stakeholders with multiple agendas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Author project plans for epics and drive agile project management processes.
  • Good brokering skills. Achieve consensus amongst stakeholders and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Manage a team of engineers and help our engineers grow their skills and experience.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members on technical contributions, product architecture, and other areas.
  • Hold regular 1:1s with all members of their team and give regular and clear feedback around the individual's performance.
  • Foster technical decision making on the team but make final decisions when necessary
    Draft quarterly OKRs and Engineering KPIs.
  • Constantly work towards improving product quality, security, and performance
    Identify inefficiencies in process and generate and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
