We are currently accepting applications for a Term, Full-Time Therapeutic Assistant to join our Halifax team!
Summary:
Reporting to the Recreation Therapist (Allied Health Lead), the Therapeutic Assistant will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the inter-professional team to carry out the individual's intervention plan. The therapeutic assistant provides support to the resident and inter-professional team members using therapeutic interventions, facilitation techniques, and participation in leisure/recreation programming in a 1:1 or group setting.
Qualifications:
- Diploma from an accredited post-secondary educational institution:
- 2 year Therapeutic Recreation Diploma
Assets:
- Dementia: Understanding the Journey Course
- Gentle Persuasion Approach Program
- Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
- Suicide Prevention Certification.
- Understands the principles of person and family center care as it relates to a continuing care population.
- Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral intervention techniques.
- Understands the concepts of working within a care team as an approach to providing resident care.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Understanding and knowledge of ABI, stroke, dementia, and mental health as well as persons living in LTC
- Demonstrated ability to engage residents in therapeutic interventions.

Salary / Benefits: As per the Northwood scale.
Hours of Work: 80 hours Bi-weekly (8 - 12 Hour Shifts) - Days/Evenings
Effective Date: Immediately, Term ending March 31, 2025.
