Your Contribution

As a Supervisor of the Geotechnical and Materials Engineering, you will work in collaboration with the Geotechnical and Materials Team.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Assist in determining staffing needs and assist with recruitment;
  • Supervisory level direction of professionals and technicians;
  • Timesheet and expense approval of direct reports;
  • Enhance, develop and mobilize the team of professionals and technicians;
  • Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety rules;
  • Plan, assign, coordinate and supervise work, projects and activities performed by the team;
  • Chair regular communication and meetings for the team;
  • Communicate with other teams and operation centres to work closer without silos;
  • Assist Team leader to manage the training plans and career development of employees;
  • Provide effective leadership, direction and support for members of the team;
  • Work with project managers to ensure that projects are set up and executed in full compliance with quality standards and regulations;
  • Determine areas of potential improvement and direct the implementation of change to address these areas;
  • Build and/or support client relationships at the appropriate level, working in conjunction with the team leader and director;
  • Implement policy changes and up-to-date business processes;
  • Act as a senior professional in various projects;
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed, including conducting field safety inspections; and, Mentor team members and provide a positive work environment.

Technical and Strategic Planning:

  • Prepare detailed proposals for Geotechnical and Materials Engineering projects with planned scope of work and fees;
  • Provide senior field consultation on geotechnical and materials issues including, but not limited to, slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, excavations, subgrades, concrete and asphalt;
  • Aid in preparation of purchase orders and approve invoices for payment;
  • Correspond and meet with clients;
  • Review and approve/co-sign project deliverables;
  • Ensure invoices are routinely sent to clients, and investigate late payments;
  • Technical expertise in the area of geotechnical engineering and materials testing;
  • Provide in-house training on soil, asphalt, and concrete for new field technicians annually; and,
  • Plan, assign, coordinate and supervise work, projects and activities performed by the team.

Weekly/Monthly Activities:

  • Approve timesheets;
  • Communicate with direct reports on work load, safety, site issues;
  • Communicate with supervisor on staffing needs, non-conformances, safety concerns;
  • Manage projects;
  • Write proposals;
  • Review/write reports;
  • Review financial performance of operations and provide strategies for continuous improvement;
  • Ensure staff are invoicing WIP and meet clients for collections, when required;
  • Implement policy changes and ensure compliance;
  • Mentor staff;
  • Attend weekly materials and Geotech meetings;
  • Attend bi-weekly SWO OC's coordination meeting;
  • Meet and build relationships with clients; and,
  • Attend quarterly management meeting.

Your Profile

  • BSc. degree in Civil, Geological, or other Related Engineering Discipline;
  • Registered and in good standing with Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng.);
  • CCIL certification an asset;
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience;
  • Exceptionally strong understanding of the Ontario market;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French will be considered an asset);
  • Excellent Leadership and mentorship skills;
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain internal and external client relationships;
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, consultants, contractors, and clients;
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, forward-thinking individual possessing strong interpersonal abilities. Strong leadership, time management and team building skills are essential to meet the expectations of our supportive and proactive organization.
