Human Resources Business Partner

As one of WorkplaceNL's Human Resources Business Partners, you will provide strategic support, advice, and solutions pertaining to people-related subjects including workforce planning, Human Resource (HR) program roll-out, departmental change initiatives, departmental analytics and reporting, and seamless delivery of labour relations and disability management services. You will work closely with all levels of management, union leadership and the HR team to meet business objectives and to ensure consistent application of HR programs, policies and legislation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plays a crucial role in executing the human resources strategy to create an engaged and high-performance workplace culture.
  • Advises and coaches leaders on best practices in leadership, employee relations, and human resources matters in a unionized environment.
  • Facilitates/leads the communication, education, and delivery of HR programs to leaders and employees.
  • Provides support to the Human Resources Strategist and human resources leadership on the development of new and innovative HR programs, policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a primary contact for employees seeking advice on complex HR and employee relations matters.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with all levels of union representatives and ensures compliance with the Collective Agreement, legislation, policy and procedure.
  • Provides labour/employee relations services including investigating incidents and resolving issues through coaching, progressive discipline, mediation, alternate dispute resolution.
  • Administers the absence and disability management of occupational and non-occupational absences and accommodations.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance organizational performance and functioning including identification of performance gaps, learning and development opportunities and training and leadership succession planning.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in the areas of Commerce, Social Sciences, Education or related area.
  • Minimum of five years' related progressive experience in human resources or labour relations management, including managing and delivering human resources services and programs to a variety of stakeholders in a unionized environment.
  • Training in alternate dispute resolution would be considered an asset.
  • Soft skills:
    • Well-developed organizational, time-management, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently, make decisions and exercise good judgment.
    • Provide leadership, work collaboratively within teams, and consult effectively and independently with all levels of the organization to achieve results.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to diffuse and manage conflict to facilitate solutions.
    • Ability to manage change through leading, motivating, and empowering others in the administration of WorkplaceNL programs and services.
