We invite you to use your skills with us and contribute to something meaningful and enduring.The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Controls Specialist to join our Controls Team in Port Colborne, Ontario.This is a permanent on-site role, working a Monday to Friday schedule. As a Controls Specialist you will maintain and improve the reliability of production equipment by safely and competently designing, developing, programming, implementing, troubleshooting, and understanding control systems and their architecture. Your experience and skills will help with the maintenance of control systems and their associated connected devices through regular procedures, backups, replacements, upgrades, removals, writing of technical documents and reports.Additionally, in this position you will:
- Communicate with the operations team to co-ordinate on-going work to ensure that the required people are aware of the work going on, to ensure everything is in a safe state. Execute daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks on various types of equipment to ensure their continued operation.
- Read and create P&IDs, blueprints, electrical schematics, and manuals to assist in diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of controls systems and processes.
- Respond after-hours to breakdowns and on-call situations to assist with bringing production back online in a safe manner. Report deviations to established procedures and provide required documentation of work performed.
- Program, support, backup and maintain various platforms of PLCs. Design and implement standards for the plant to keep installations, hardware, and HMI screens consistent throughout the plant.
- Design, Develop and implement monitoring tools and procedures to identify internal issues before they happen and Maintain servers and server clusters to ensure backups and operating systems are kept up to date with minimal downtime
- Maintain and support the Microsoft Widows Domain, ensuring that best practices are followed in its implementation and usage. Make recommendations to improve the reliability of production systems, monitoring systems and their support systems along with creating and supporting custom software packages.
- Post secondary education in a relevant STEM field.
- Networking certifications such as a Cisco CCNA
- PLC Programming or Computer Programming
- PLC or DCS background
- 3-4 years of experience
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs.
- Experience working with customized control systems.
- Experience working with HMIs and developing HMI systems.
- Experience with network equipment, switch configurations and routing.
- Experience with Windows Domain environments, RADIUS, Microsoft AD, MSSQL, and Veeam Backup and recovery.
- Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and all other applicable legislation is required.
