Shop Production Control Specialist

Purpose of position:

To ensure the Component Shop output meets the Production Plan in a safe and effective manner utilizing company procedures and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing Shop Metric reports and Web Reports, Monitor shop output and identify priorities on a daily basis.
  • Attend production meetings with Component Shop Supervisor(s) and Crew chiefs to prioritize workflow and priorities and remove bottlenecks and delays.
  • With the assistance of the Supervisor(s) adjust daily/weekly plan and goals to ensure an on-time delivery of product from repair for CPA and Third-Party work.
  • Monitor weekly Shop WO production trends repaired through the Component Shops and identify and develop action plans to meet future demands.
  • Liaise with Planning, Procurement, Stores, Engineering, Quality and Shop Supervisors to ensure workflow issues are identified and develop action plans to address issues. Share information with all stakeholders.
  • Monitor Shop WO closure performance and work with Shop Supervisor(s) to ensure repair turnaround time targets are maintained.
  • Report on aged WO/RO's, determine status and action plans to address outstanding items. Produce reports to prioritize Work orders based on age that will be used to guide production.
  • Audit Task Cards on a regular basis for inclusion of parts and tooling, and clear work instructions. Work with Supervisors to revise or create new task cards when required.
  • Coordinate with Supervisor and Crew Chiefs to prioritize Third Party work within the overall shop workload.
  • Generate Third party reports and status updates for regular scheduled customer order review, and Liaise with customers for status of their parts.
  • Promote and assist in establishing benchmarks for company operations and best demonstrated practices.
  • Review future workload trends to:
    • Determine manpower, parts, and tooling requirements
    • Scope the work and establish reasonable estimates for time to complete
    • Identify and assess unusual tasks, specialized work
  • Recommend adjustments to the production process to increase efficiency and reduce rework. Provide support to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor training records for expiry, assist in planning new and recurrent training requirements for the Shop personnel.
  • Perform research required to develop business cases for additional Shop capability. Identifying parts, tools, training requirements, and cost evaluation for each part.
  • Perform research into equipment and tooling requirements, recommend servicing and replacement requirements for shop equipment.
  • Assist Manager with Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA) findings, develop action plans to address root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Provide a backup to the Supervisor during vacation and during his absence.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Recognized post-secondary technical program diploma
  • Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's license or equivalent technical aviation experience preferred
  • 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Previous experience with Computer programs and spreadsheets an asset
  • Strong production management skills including administration, prioritization, process improvement and benchmarking for best practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of airline operations including safety and regulatory requirements, maintenance programs, and planning
  • Conversant with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project.
  • Previous experience with the Unifor Maintenance Contract
  • Strong data and analytic skills necessary
  • Bilingualism (English & French) an asset since dealing with customers and suppliers in the province of Quebec
