Raw materials and finished products from Vale's Sudbury and Newfoundland and Labrador operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing.The Opportunity The successful candidate will be a member of the Engineering & Projects Department in Port Colborne, Ontario. The candidate will be responsible for providing design engineering services for the Port Colborne Refinery. As a successful candidate, you will be responsible to provide design engineering services for the Port Colborne refinery.The position requires the person to be capable of producing innovative engineering design solutions to operating and maintenance problems. In addition, the person must have the capability of preparing project scopes of work and associated work packages for construction.The position involves in-field work in the Port Colborne refinery. The candidate must possess valid driver's license.Responsibilities:The individual will:
  • Lead a team of design personnel to complete engineering designs.
  • Ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards.
  • Own responsibility of integrity for designs produced under their technical direction and legally approves and seals designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provides technical direction for complex engineering designs within there are of expertise and assists and guides other design personnel
  • Conducts internal engineering studies.
  • Provides inputs to consultants on external engineering studies and reviews final deliverables.
  • Conducts field inspections, prepares field sketches, and prepares relevant reports.
  • Participates in the review of construction, commissioning and start up functions.
  • Applies sound engineering knowledge and exercises leadership, mentoring and training to other design personnel.
  • Coordinates and reviews work of engineering consultants designs and specifications for assigned projects.
  • Conducts inspections for piping and equipment, capturing and analyzing observations and produces plans to address concerns.
About YouEducation:
  • Undergraduate diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Designation Required (P.Eng.) – Province of Ontario Preferred
Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical design for multi- disciplined projects
  • Experience in conceptual and detailed mechanical design of systems relevant to the refining industry.
  • Experience in piping and pumping design.
  • Experience in mechanical equipment inspections.
  • Experience in planning and estimating.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Experience in writing equipment and construction specifications. •
  • Project engineering experience is an asset
  • CAPEX/OPEX experience highly desirable.
Skills:Experience in designing mechanical systems including:
  • Piping systems
  • HVAC
  • Material Handling Systems
  • Dust Control
  • Machine Design
Experience working with applicable codes and regulations including:
  • Regulation 854: Mines and Mining Plants
  • ASME B31.1 and ASME 31.3
  • ASME B&PV Section 8 & Section 9
  • CSA 851 & W59
  • MSS
  • SMACNA
  • TSSA
  • NFPA
Experience conduction process hazard reviews
  • Recommend, where possible, to list the knowledge and skills requirements starting with the required/must haves, followed by the preferred and indicated as such for example: "is preferred" or "is considered an asset".
