The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) is dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in reaching their full economic development potential through advocacy and networking. JEDI invites applications for the role of Communications Officer in Fredericton. Reporting to JEDI's Communications Manager, the Communications Officer provides assistance for all communications activities including annual reports, website updates and event planning.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of JEDI's communications strategy.
  • Coordinate and prepare information and press releases for the JEDI blog, newsletters, annual reports and other JEDI initiatives.
  • Manage the organization's social media and electronic presence to promote awareness of JEDI and it programs.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating local, provincial, regional and national events and activities. This will include photographing and documenting events.
  • Develop mechanisms to manage and prioritize key contacts.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications or related field and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related role, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Confident, clear written and spoken communications skills with the ability to deliver key messages.
  • Organized and creative self-starter experienced in managing multiple projects including event planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations history, communities, culture and social concerns. Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous descent.
  • Experience in website design and management as well as proficiency in MS Office. Skills in other technical tools, such as graphic design, and in event planning are assets.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel in the province as required.
  • Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.
