The ability to understand these risks and bridge the knowledge gap that often exists between business and IT is the core strength of EY's Technology Risk team. Our Responsible AI professionals provide independent advice and assurance to our clients over the design and operation of their internal controls over AI, the security of their AI systems, the delivery of AI usage, their relationships with third parties, and their management, stewardship and ability to exploit business critical data.

The opportunity

EY is investing in our Responsible AI practice. We are seeking a Manager to join our Technology Risk – Responsible AI team to help our clients in evaluating the sufficiency of their AI governance, risk management and control practices related to AI model development, testing and deployment to maximize efficiencies and minimize risk. You will manage engagement teams and directly assist clients in navigating through AI governance and managing AI risks related to model development, testing, deployment to maximize efficiencies and minimize risk. Your key responsibilities:

As a Responsible AI Manager, you will supervise team members and work with a variety of clients to assess and evaluate their AI governance, risk management and control frameworks. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Conduct independent evaluations of the sufficiency of clients' internal policies, procedures and practices against EY's Responsible AI framework, industry guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee execution of audit procedures of AI systems in support of financial statement audits, service organization control reports and internal audits.
  • Internal Controls Attestations – Providing an opinion on management's assertion over business processes and controls, including controls over AI systems.
  • AI Governance – Assess clients' AI governance, strategy, model operations, and regulation compliance.
  • Lead and support on-site coordination roles for clients, including planning, briefing teams on the client's AI environment and industry AI trends, coaching, and mentoring staff, communicating with clients, and completing assessment or audit engagements.
  • Prepare AI-related reports on the adequacy and effectiveness of control structures, along with practical recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Leverage understanding of AI technology and responsible AI trends to develop practical recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of a control or process.
  • Discuss and resolve issues and recommendations with client management.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare go-to-market materials for Responsible AI services for both internal and external use.
  • Lead and support teams including delivering virtual and classroom-based AI-related audit training.
  • Maintain relationships with client management to manage expectations of service, including work products, timing, and value delivered.
  • Maintain long-term client relationships and networks and cultivate business development opportunities.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience with responsible AI practices, risk governance, control frameworks and principles.
  • Understanding of types of AI models and AI lifecycle stages.
  • Staying abreast of AI technology trends and provide directional guidance and recommendations around responsible AI practices and principles.
  • Applying combined business and technical knowledge to develop and execute assessments and evaluations of AI governance, risk management and control frameworks.
  • Collaborating with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Cloud Engineers, MLOps Engineers, and DevOps to incorporate responsible AI practices into the client's AI program.
  • Collaborating with clients to understand their business objectives and develop tailored responsible AI strategies aligned with their values and regulatory obligations.
  • Providing advice in the design and implementation of ethical frameworks, guidelines, and policies to govern the development and deployment of AI systems, ensuring fairness, transparency, reliability, security and accountability.
  • Provide high quality professional day-to-day management of internal/external engagements/projects and understand EY's practices and broader service offerings and identify potential opportunities to improve such service offerings.
  • Maintain relationships with client management to manage expectations of service, including work products, timing, and the value to be delivered.Highly professional with the ability to work in challenging, diverse, and evolving client environments.

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of direct operational risk experience or technical knowledge of AI-related assessments or audits
  • Relevant professional designation, such as CPA, CISA, CIA, CISSP, CISM, or eligibility to obtain a relevant designation.
  • Practical knowledge in any of the following areas: AI technologies, AI ethics, AI governance, Responsible AI principles, AI lifecycles, and/or AI risks and controls.
  • Ability to stay updated with industry trends and AI regulatory requirements, and quickly adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience leveraging analytic tools, including the collection and preparation of data and evaluating data quality.
  • Independent and able to manage and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and positively to change.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of internal auditing standards and techniques.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated consistency in values, principles, and work ethic.
  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, OneNote, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain Government of Canada Secret clearance.
  • Willingness to travel.


Ideally, you'll also have

  • Certification in relevant areas such as AI ethics, data ethics and responsible AI, such as AI Ethics Certification, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer, or International Association of Privacy Professionals' AI Governance Professional designation.
  • Understanding of python, R+, and model design.
  • Data governance and/or data security protection experience.
  • Experience with evaluating compliance with regulations and incorporating new AI regulations and laws within engagements, specifically the Digital Services Act (DSA), European Union AI Act, and US AI guidelines/laws.
  • Familiarity with the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework and the ISO/IEC 42001 standard.
