AC Covert, a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., a dynamic and growing East Coast family company, with Platinum Member status in Canada's Best Managed Companies Program, is offering a unique opportunity for highly motivated individuals to join the Company's Distribution Team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on a contractual basis to support a medical leave - 3 month contract

Overview:

In this position, you will be responsible for assisting in the processing and packaging of fresh and frozen fish products. Your attention to detail and adherence to food safety regulations will be critical to ensure the delivery of high-quality seafood to our customers.

As a Fish Processing Plant Worker, you will work in a fast-paced environment, working collaboratively with a team to meet production goals and maintain cleanliness in the facility. Key tasks will include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas, sorting, cutting, and filleting fish, as well as packaging products for distribution. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the product meets quality standards by conducting visual inspections and monitoring temperature control.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize equipment, work surfaces, and processing areas regularly to maintain a hygienic environment
  • Sort, wash, and prepare fish for processing and packaging according to company standards
  • Cut, fillet, and debone fish using specialized tools and techniques
  • Package fish products accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper labeling and date coding
  • Operate machinery such as mixers, slicers, and blenders in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor and maintain temperature control in storage areas and refrigerators
  • Maintain accurate records of production and inventory

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a food processing environment preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while standing for long periods
  • Flexible availability to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in cold and wet conditions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Safety:

- Adhere to Company safety policies and standard operating procedures to ensure personal and team safety

- Immediately report any incidents, injury, or damage to property to your supervisor/manager

- Bring any safety issues to the immediate attention of your supervisor/manager

Working Conditions:

- Production floor work conditions, Plant or industrial setting

- Shift work, subject to change

- Long hours, standing and dynamic movement, use of approved cutting devices, PPE provided
