We invite you to use your skills with us and contribute to something meaningful and enduring.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking an Senior Electrical/Instrumentation Designer to join our Engineering and Projects team in Port Colborne, ON This is a permanent position.This role completes drafting and design for the Engineering design team according to Vale standards and safe operating procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for completing drafting and design for typical engineering projects for both mines and surface plants.Additionally, in this position you will:
- Complete drafting and design for Engineering design projects for both mines and surface plants and creating, search for, reviews and check engineering drawings
- Act as Design Team Lead (DTL) to lead engineering projects and understanding and scope work based on the needs of the plant/mine
- Develop workplans, Define design parameters, prepare scopes of work and consult with vendors, complete tender and construction reviews and work through FEL process
- Solve problems that arise during the design process to keep the engineering job on time and on budget, considering safety and risk in all designs and aim for designs which reduce risk and aim for practical design solutions (considering durability, constructability, maintenance, and cost)
- Read, understand and apply Vale Engineering standards and industry codes appropriately and understand mathematical and geometrical functions (i.e. trigonometry) in order to check drawing accuracy. Being competent in basic numerical design calculations under supervision of the engineer.
- Knowledgeable and able to use simple equations (i.e. current/voltage), Knowledgeable in one or more design software MicroStation, AUTOCAD, CADWORX. Be proficient in creating and redlining P&IDs, single line diagrams, PLC diagrams, interlock schematics loop diagrams, conduit, and cable tray drawings, including support details and sizing.
- Electrical Engineering Technologist certificate preferred
- 5+ years of relevant experience within the industry
- Proficient in drafting software (i.e. Microstation)
- Drafting Skills: Must possess the ability to scale drawings, create or revise drawings, and reserve and archive drawings.
- Technical Knowledge – Knowledge of OSHA, Reg 841, OESC, CAN-M421
- System Knowledge – Knowledge of Vale Drawing Management System (jDMS). Microstation is preferred but AutoCAD is acceptable
- Numeric Logic - Proficient use of spreadsheets. Understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
