The PAL Aerospace Programs Department is searching for a MS Project SME to join our team based in St. John's, NL. This is a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of our aircraft modification programs. The MS Project SME will report to the Program Manager and support the program administrative functions, with an emphasis on scheduling. Due to the wide geographic dispersion of PAL's operations and the large nature of company programs, communication and organization are two core competencies that will help facilitate success in the SME's role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Scheduling

  • Support the decomposition of project scope and development of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Collaborate and assist in the development of the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) at the scale of > 1,000 lines and activities, each with interdependencies.
  • Regularly facilitate and incorporate divisional updates into the IMS.
  • Develop and present Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on project progress.
  • Analyze project critical path and provide recommendations for improvement, compression, or risk reduction, as needed.

Team Coordination

  • Liaise between technical staff (software, engineering, maintenance technicians), departmental management, project management team, clients, and finance to support project efforts.
  • Effectively communicate in English, verbally and written, both in-person and via online meetings.
  • Hosts interdepartmental working groups to develop project plans, facilitate updates, understand issues or delays, and baseline documents.

Risk Management

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) to identify, assess, prioritize, respond, and communicate risks.
  • Develop and manage the risk management database throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Incorporate risk treatment strategies in IMSs.

Documentation Management

  • Support the Project Manager in developing and baselining critical project documents.
  • Carry out configuration management.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Business Administration, and/or an Aviation Business background.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar training is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of direct work experience in technical and/or aerospace program management is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Project.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Visio, SharePoint, and Power BI.
  • Experience with requirements management software such as Jama, DevOps, IBM DOORS, or similar.
  • Understanding of industry scheduling standards or best practices concepts, including but not limited to:
    • Department of Defense (DoD) Integrated Master Plan and Integrated Master Schedule Preparation and Use Guide.
    • National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Planning & Scheduling Excellence Guide (PASEG).
