Salary Range: $33.67 per hour *October 1st rate

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Manager of Maintenance & Operations, the Maintenance Foreperson Vehicle Mechanic 2 is a working supervisory position responsible for planning, assigning and co-ordinating the activities of Vehicle Mechanics, other assigned Tradespersons, and unskilled workers engaged in the mechanical and welding maintenance and repair of Facilities Management vehicles, heavy mobile equipment, small engine equipment, and for repairs and alterations to buildings components or equipment on the Fredericton Campus.

  • Performs as a working foreperson using the tools of the trade. Is responsible for inspection and quality control of tasks performed by this shop.
  • Establishes and maintains a rigorous and regular inspection protocol of all Facilities Management vehicles and mobile equipment including MVI and other third-party inspections and certifications.
  • Maintains a scheduled preventive maintenance program on all Facilities Management vehicles and mobile equipment. Identifies all required service parts and materials and communicates with Stores for stocking levels and availability.
  • Plans, assigns, coordinates and supervises the work of Mechanics, other Tradespersons, helpers and unskilled workers employed in the shop or at the work site.
  • Responsible for the adherence to all safety regulations in the shop or on the work site.
  • Inspects shop tools and equipment for defects or malfunctions and arranges for any repairs.
  • Estimates material and labour requirements for projects assigned. Orders materials and maintains records of labour and materials used for each job.
  • May give instruction or training to apprentices or trades helpers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A certificate of registration as a qualified Journeyman Automotive Service Technician Occupation, or a Journeyman Truck and Transport Service Technician Occupation, or a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Service Technician Occupation that is recognized by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.
  • Five years' experience at the Journeyman level.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Additional Strengths

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and equipment employed in the Automotive Service, Truck and Transport Service and Heavy Equipment Service trades, the hazards involved, and safety precautions necessary in maintenance and repair work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act, the National Fire Code, WHMIS.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the work of skilled and unskilled workers in both normal and emergency situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic or flow drawings and specifications as they relate to vehicle and equipment electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Above average listening, analytical and troubleshooting skills when responding to operators with vehicle or equipment failures.
  • Ability to work from heights and in cramped or confined spaces.
  • Metallurgy knowledge with ability to make repairs to metal components by welding would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with computerized vehicle and equipment maintenance software systems, computerized work order systems, and on-line information resources would be an asset.
