The newly established role of Associate Dean of Research will play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant research culture at the University of Fredericton. The Associate Dean of Research will be responsible for supporting high-quality, relevant research that culminates in publications in peer-reviewed journals and significant books, but also transfer publications and engagement with industry partners. Additionally, the Associate Dean will be responsible for the research fund allotment process, reviewing applications against the Research Policy. Reporting to the Dean of Teaching and Learning, the Associate Dean of Research will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Foster research across the University supporting faculty and encouraging a research culture.
  • Mentor faculty and students in their research endeavors and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Deans and other university leaders to integrate research initiatives with the overall strategic plan.
  • Encourage an environment that encourages both high-quality research and transfer to industry stakeholders.

Research Development and Support:

  • Support faculty in developing research proposals and managing funded projects.
  • Promote interdisciplinary research and partnerships within and outside the University.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging findings, trends, issues, challenges, technology, insights, and priorities in the field of higher education.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, funding agencies, and academic institutions.

Research Administration and Compliance:

  • Ensure ethical standards and integrity in all research activities.
  • Oversee the administration of research policies, procedures, and compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of research initiatives and outcomes.
Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • PhD or other terminal degree.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an administrative leadership position/role in a higher education setting.
  • A distinguished record of scholarly research and peer-reviewed publication.
  • Experience in collaboratively leading and supporting faculty.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends and developments in research and higher education.
  • Strong understanding of research compliance, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with a wide range of people. These skills must enable the person to maintain professionalism and sound judgment during difficult conversations, under stress, and in managing challenging situations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing faculty and student researchers.

Hours of Work

This is a fulltime permanent position (35 hours) under regular business hours. The position is located in Fredericton, NB with the possibility to work remotely from anywhere in New Brunswick, and attend in-office meetings, as required. The ideal candidate should reside in New Brunswick or is willing to relocate.
