The Department of Justice and Public Safety is seeking to fill a Deputy Superintendent position. As a leader and member of the managerial team, the successful candidate will be assisting the Superintendent in all the duties relating to the operations of a correctional facility. Work will involve budget responsibility; effective labour relations; supervisory and administrative duties as well as an overall responsibility to maintain security and provide for rehabilitation. Assisting in staff training and work performance evaluation, coaching, and mentoring and participating in policy and community resources development are also important aspects of the job.

What you will do
As a Peace Officer the successful candidate will assist in the management, promotion, and co-ordination of an effective, comprehensive, and secure operation for the delivery of correctional services by functioning as a key member of the multidisciplinary team.

Work environment

  • Locations: Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre, Madawaska Regional Correctional Centre, New Brunswick Women's Correctional Centre (Youth Centre), Southeast Regional Correctional Centre, Saint John Regional Correctional Centre
  • Office layout: individual offices
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 or extended/irregular hours (weekend/evenings)

Need to have (their essential skills and qualifications)

  • University Degree in Social Sciences, Criminology, or a related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible correctional experience, of which at least two (2) years must be correctional supervisory experience
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check


An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Some positions require written and spoken competence in English and French while other positions require written and spoken competence in English only.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement(s) is also required:

  • may be required to work extended and/or irregular hours (evenings and/or weekends)

Wage
$2,846.00 to $3,786 Biweekly (Pay Band 6)
