Policy Analyst

Description

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB) is a medical regulatory authority that, by authority of the Medical Act, 1981, serves and protects the public by regulating the practice of medicine in the province. With over 20 employees and over 3000 licensed physicians, the Policy Analyst will support the CPSNB's mandate.

Reports to the Director of Policy and Planning.

Key Responsibilities

As the Policy Analyst, you will play an important role for researching, developing and coordinating operationalization of College policies and professional standards.

Below is an outline of key responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research on Medical Regulatory policies and professional standards
  • Develop proposals and recommendations for policies and professional standards based on research findings and partner consultations
  • Gather, interpret and analyze data to support policy decisions
  • Proactively identify trends, challenges and opportunities and analyze the risks and benefits of policy options when framing recommendations
  • Support projects within the Policy portfolio
  • Communicate and collaborate with governmental and non-governmental organizations to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Provide research and policy support to other departments within CPSNB
  • Work on cross-departmental projects, providing research and policy development expertise, as well as other skills, on an ad hoc basis, as required

Other Responsibilities:

  • Must be willing to work flexible and extended hours as required
  • Physically able to perform assigned duties
  • Other duties as required

Position Location and Hours of Work

This position is located in Rothesay, New Brunswick. Normal business hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Additional hours can be expected based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in health, policy, social sciences, law or other related studies. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience dealing with public policy, healthcare or a related field
  • Regulatory or operational policy experience is an asset
  • Experience in researching and analyzing legislation, regulations, and policies
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data
  • Experience in supporting executive decision making and have political acumen to understand critical issues and concerns faced by a variety of stakeholders.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Written and Verbal

  • Superior writing, analytical and verbal communication as well as large group presentation skills.
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining working relationships with organizations such as federal, provincial or territorial governments and non-governmental organizations

Language

  • French language fluency (written and spoken) is an asset

Technical Skills/Computer Experience

  • Microsoft Planner
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook)
  • Adobe Acrobat/Kofax
  • Experience using a customer management system is an asset
  • Flexibility to emerging technologies

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior and office work environment
  • No, or very limited, physical effort is required
