Job Title: Steel Detailer (Custom Fabrication)

Location: Belleville, (Ontario, Canada)

Type: Full-Time Position Perm.

Salary: Between $33 - 39 hourly or (65,000 -72,000 annually as discussed by client.)

The Detailer supports projects by creating a 3D model, assembly drawings, erection diagrams & digital information from client specifications, layout drawings, design sketches, models, proto-types or from other verbal instructions. Using 3D modeling software, the Detailer provides assembly drawings & electronic files to the shop for fabrication and shipping, and erection diagrams and other information to Field Services for construction, all within tight and shifting deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A University Degree or Drafting/Engineering Technology diploma/certificate from a recognized technical institute, or suitable work experience.
• Minimum 3 years within the Custom Steel Fabrication Industry or relevant industry
• Experience in designing/drafting using automated software.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience in plate layout, miscellaneous steel, bins, hoppers and conveyor detailing
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Advanced Steel or equivalent 3D modeling software systems.
• Knowledge in structural steel fabrication, connections, and erection practices
• Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts
• Ability to read structural and architectural drawings
• Knowledge of building codes and CISC standards for structural steel
• A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a cooperative, yet demanding, work environment
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities
• Excellent Computer Skills
• Strong written / verbal communication skills in the English language
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills. High attention to detail

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Review and interpret contracts, drawings and other documentation to determine information required for drafting
• Perform 3D modeling and detailing from sketches, site visit details, in-house designed packages and externally provided engineering packages
• Initiate and prepare RFI's (Request For Information) and follow-up as needed
• Develop shop and erection drawings for miscellaneous steel, bins, hoppers, conveyors and structural steel using Advanced Steel or Tekla 3D modeling
• Prepare detail drawings of bins, hoppers, conveyors, beams, columns, girts, joists, stairs, handrails, and connections
• Provide technical clarifications to shop personnel to support their work and prevent costly interruption due to lack of information
• Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications, design data and building codes, and ensure any changes in scope are reported to Project Manager
• Comply with requirements of the design drawings and with CISC standards and CWB codes
• Perform site visits, attend meetings with engineers and technicians, and facilitate communication with clients
