SCHEDULE: Day, Evening, Weekend, Rotation, 8 and 12-hour shifts. Work schedule may be changed to meet operational needs.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the manager of the Richibucto Community Mental Health Centre and under the supervision of the clinical coordinator of the mobile crisis team, the mental health social worker is responsible for assessing the mental health status of patients presenting different problems (with an identified or suspected link to mental health and/or addiction disorders). The social worker will use a two-eyed seeing approach and Indigenous ways of knowing in service delivery when deemed appropriate. The social worker will assess the patient's support network with a view to directing them towards resources adapted to identified needs while demonstrating and understanding of the cultural safety competency within health care. The social worker will liaise between emergency services, the psychiatric unit, and community mental health and addiction services. As part of their duties, the social worker will provide an understanding of indigenous traditional healing practices and ways of knowing along with person-centered care.

The social worker will work closely with the patient's loved ones, care team, emergency physician, psychiatrist, and other professionals to contribute to the well-being of the patient while respecting the cultural component of care with which they identify. The social worker will demonstrate an understanding of Canadian colonization, Indigenous systemic racism and its impact on the current health and wellness of Indigenous people. The social worker will perform the following functions: assessment, crisis intervention, diagnosis, treatment, individual/family counseling, prevention, awareness, and health promotion. The incumbent will also be knowledgeable about the local Indigenous people's demographic, languages, cultures, customs, and traditions and possess and maintain a strong awareness of Indigenous community resources.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Member in good standing of the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers;
  • Experience in mental health or addictions would be an asset;
  • Training on the prevention and management of suicidal behavior or obtain it within the set deadlines;
  • CPI non-violent intervention techniques or obtain it within the set deadlines;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of mental health status assessment, including suicide risk;
  • Knowledge of community mental health and addiction services as well as various community resources in the region, including services for First Nations;
  • Ability to use technology for performing assessments virtually;
  • Clinical judgment and good analytical skills;
  • Leadership and good decision-making skills;
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Adaptability and flexibility;
  • Good organizational skills and ability to set priorities;
  • Willingness to travel within the zone;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to form effective partnerships with the community network;
  • Ability to offer group sessions to clients;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties;
  • Good previous work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics principles, the Network management philosophy, and organizational values;
  • Compliance with the rules of confidentiality established by the Network .
