About the opportunity:

Taste of Nova Scotia seeks a Manager of Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager plays a pivotal role in driving growth, enhancing brand reputation, and achieving strategic goals for the association and its members through effective marketing and communications initiatives. As a member of the team, they will work across all areas of the association. Professional development opportunities are available for continual growth in this role.

Taste of Nova Scotia is a membership-based, non-profit, marketing association dedicated to promoting Nova Scotia's exceptional food and drink products, experiences, and restaurants both here at home and around the world. We have more than 200 members who set and maintain the Taste of Nova Scotia quality standards for food, service, and hospitality.

Our members include an impressive collection of innovative farmers, fishers, producers, processors, artisans, wineries, breweries, distilleries, cideries, and an outstanding collection of restaurants that are committed to showcasing Nova Scotia food and drink on their menus.

Our vision is to be a leading resource for promoting and building the culinary industry in Nova Scotia. Our key mandates are to:

  • help grow our members' businesses.
  • assist in having Nova Scotia recognized globally in public forums as a culinary authority.

Our team is made up of a passionate, close-knit group of professionals who are dedicated to serving our membership while assisting in the growth and development of Nova Scotia's agri-food, seafood, beverage, export, buy local, and culinary tourism industries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and enhancing the association's brand identity with consistent messaging and visual identity across all marketing channels.
  • Planning and executing digital marketing campaigns on platforms like social media, email, websites, and search engines.
  • Managing advertising and promotional activities, such as the annual Taste of Nova Scotia Culinary Guide and Culinary Trails, to boost brand and member business awareness, coordinating with media suppliers, and tracking campaign results.
  • Managing the organization's website, mobile app, and social media, creating and curating content, monitoring online interactions, and responding to inquiries.
  • Collaborating with the team to develop and launch new products/services, conducting market research, developing marketing plans, and creating promotional materials.
  • Managing public relations to raise awareness of the association and membership, including press releases, media kits, and media relations.
  • Monitoring and analyzing marketing metrics and KPIs using tools like Google Analytics and CRM systems.
  • Effectively managing budgets across different marketing activities.
  • Aligning communication strategies with organizational goals and working with external partners as necessary.
  • Providing exceptional service to members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Supporting all association duties as needed, and being flexible with evening, weekend, and travel commitments.

Marketing & Communications platforms:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree (Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is considered an asset), or the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing marketing plans, including campaigns, brand management, media relations, and communications strategies.
  • Proficiency with digital marketing, data analysis, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and analytics tools is considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, with a strong understanding of public relations practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and web editing skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Nova Scotia's food and beverage industry.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5 or higher is required)

Employment details & Benefits: The Manager of Marketing and Communications will work from the office, generally 40 hours/week, generally Monday to Friday during business hours. The salary range is $50,000 to $60,000 annually, with three weeks of vacation (increasing with years of service); holiday closures; inclusion in the association's cell phone plan; and parking. Successful candidates may be eligible for inclusion in the Taste of Nova Scotia benefits package, which includes health, dental, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage.
