Clearwater Seafoods' Legal department requires Paralegal based at their Bedford, Nova Scotia Corporate Office. This role is a full-time permanent position.

Purpose of Position:

The Paralegal will work closely with the Vice President Legal & Corporate Secretary to provide legal and administrative support.

Reporting Structure

  • This position reports to the Executive Vice President Legal & Corporate Secretary

Job Duties:

  • Prepare, draft, review and edit legal documents and correspondence
  • Organize and maintain accurate records for filing
  • Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis
  • Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology.
  • Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents.
  • Assists with research and document preparation

Duties & Accountabilities (Responsibilities)

  • Review requests to VP Legal on a pro-active basis and prioritize items for attention or re-distribution;
  • Accurately prepare, maintain and organize a range of corporate / legal documents and correspondence;
  • Manage and assist with key relationships externally and internally for effective functioning of the Legal Department;
  • Develop and maintain an accurate electronic and hard copy filing system;
  • Draft documents and letters from templates;
  • Manage legal documentation and correspondence in strict confidence;
  • Correspond with counsel and stakeholders;
  • Implement and improve upon administrative processes for more efficient workflow;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal diploma or degree or equivalent role-related education experience;
  • Experience working at a law firm or corporate legal department is an asset;
  • Prior work experience as a legal assistant and / or paralegal in a corporate legal environment is considered an asset;
  • Above average computer skills with extensive experience using PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and MS Outlook;
  • Above average communicator - written (grammar) and oral in English;
  • Excellent planning and organizational, prioritization and time-management skills required;
  • Demonstrated initiative; self-motivation, and the ability to work independently;
  • High regard for quality work product and strict attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal with difficult situations and people;
  • Effective listening skills;
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
