The salary scale for NSCC Faculty is based on twelve steps that range from $69,076.84 - $100,218.74. New Faculty may receive up to a maximum of five steps for relevant occupational experience and may receive up to an additional four steps for full-time equivalent years of instructional experience (instructional experience is defined as teaching post-secondary). The maximum a new Faculty can expect to receive is nine steps or $93,606.33

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

NSCC International is the conduit through which the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) participates in international projects and activities around the world and at home. Creating international learning opportunities for students and employees is an essential element of NSCC's vision to transform lives and communities through learning.

The Faculty, NSCC International will:

  • Act as a faculty subject matter expert in supporting two NSCC International learning projects in Belize and Kenya focused in areas such as electronic engineering, electrical engineering, solar PV, etc.
  • Under the direction of the Manager, NSCC International Activities, they will lead the successful delivery of learning projects by consistently applying best practices, leading effective teams and collaborating with stakeholders within, and outside the College.
  • Design work plans with project milestones and timelines, assess skills gaps, design and lead in-person and virtual capacity building activities for external partners including developing learning materials and facilitating training activities with a focus on various solar PV related areas.
  • This role will require travel between NSCC campuses and some international travel.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree or college diploma in electrical or electronic engineering technology. An inter-provincial journeyperson status in the Construction Electrician or Industrial Electrician trade would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in the solar PV industry.
  • You have occupational experience in the post-secondary environment, specifically teaching solar PV related courses.
  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in the development of project workplans and learning materials related to in-person and virtual training activities as well as learning materials for short-term and long-term programs.
  • You have demonstrated experience liaising and collaborating with international stakeholders and delivering training activities in an international setting.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience, including multi-media technologies and a variety of platforms that will engage students in online and blended learning.
  • Ideally, you have related experience in delivery of educational programs or training to adults.
  • Occupational experience that includes experience in providing performance feedback will be considered an asset.
  • You have knowledge and experience in applying WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety and occupation-specific safety practices.
  • You are comfortable using multi-media technologies and a variety of platforms that will serve to engage students in online and blended learning capacities. The ability to teach effectively in an online/blended environment which includes building knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of courses delivered whole or in part online, using a course management system to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students will be an important factor in your success. Candidates who do not have previous online/blended teaching experience must be open to and willing to participate in training for this delivery model.

As a condition of employment, Faculty at NSCC must complete an adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Faculty whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
