The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Public Health Branch as a Program Advisor, reporting to the Director of Prevention & Control.

As a Program Advisor, you will:

  • Using a population health framework, assist in the coordination of the provincial Planet Youth project.
  • Research, develop, plan, monitor, and evaluate Public Health programs and policies related to upstream prevention and youth substance use.
  • Support the community coalitions in Planet Youth pilot sites.
  • Provide expertise in community and partner engagement, knowledge translation, policy development, and evaluation.
  • Monitor project timelines and deliverables, providing regular reports and developing briefing material for senior leadership.
  • Work with the Communications team to support the development of communication plans and social marketing strategies, presenting to partners and overseeing the evaluation of these initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of health promotion strategies.
  • Provide stakeholder engagement and relationship building with other Public Health staff, as well as Addictions and Mental Health staff, Department of Health colleagues, the Regional Health Authorities, other Government of New Brunswick departments, and external partners.
  • Compile and analyze national and jurisdictional policies and legislative trends.
  • Represent Public Health on provincial and national committees.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Administration, or another health-related program and a minimum of three (3) years of related Public Health experience. OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Science, Health Administration, or another health-related program and a minimum of five (5) years of related Public Health experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application

In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment at a lower level may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.

Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates that possess the following asset qualification:

  • Experience related to health equity, the social determinants of health, and/or prevention of youth substance use.

Candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application the asset qualification, in addition to the essential qualifications, in order to be given further consideration.

Salary: $63,700 to $88,972 per annum (Pay Band 5)
