Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Concentrator Team is responsible for processing the ore from the mines at site into a concentrate suitable for shipping and processing offsite and providing structural paste backfill for the underground mines.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking a Paste Fill Operations Advisor to join our Concentrator Department in Voisey's Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.

This position is based at the Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

As a Paste Fill Operations Advisor, you will be responsible to develop and improve paste plant operations and technical activities to ensure quantity and quality backfill is achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner. Also, supporting the mine production in compliance with company policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Monitor and further develop system construction and filling operations to ensure quality is met and standard processes achieve scheduled targets in a timely and cost-effective manner, and in compliance with company's policies and procedures.
  • Review and recommend best practice materials and equipment usage in the paste plant and pipe delivery system to promote continuous improvement as well as correction of upsets in paste filling process.
  • Support supervisors and management to develop Job Safety Analysis, policies, and standard procedures for designated backfill and ore flow facilities, equipment, and methods, and provide guidelines and direction to operation teams in performing their duties.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Engineering and Production departments to ensure that paste plant schedule supports mining production in an effective manner.
  • Submit reports to designated management, which include equipment utilization, materials usage, and quality target achievements.

About You

Education:

  • 3-year technical diploma in Process, Mining or Civil Engineering.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in a mining environment.
  • Knowledge of underground equipment and processes.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in advising on/operation of a Paste Plant in an underground mining environment.
  • Experience recognizing hazards in an industrial workplace and understand the role in assessing and managing risk.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and diplomatic influence skills.
  • Strong analytical, time management and scheduling skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Able to apply logical thinking to solve problems and "trouble-shoot" abnormal situations to correct mechanical or process problems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and is able, with appropriate instruction, to perform basic equipment repairs.
  • Able to communicate effectively with operations and maintenance personnel while carrying out duties.
  • Familiar with operating a computer and running Windows applications.
