Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications, you will plan and deliver communications strategies to advance Sobeys Inc. business priorities, promote its organizational culture, and foster teammate engagement. The incumbent provides support to various stakeholders and business initiatives, establishes credibility in the delivery of services and builds solid working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. This is a 12 month contract.

Here's where you'll be focusing:

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for large-scale initiatives, organizational changes, program launches, and events. End-to-end management, from strategy, through to execution and measurement.
  • Advise senior leaders on strategic and change communications aimed at their internal audiences.
  • Recommend and develop innovative communication approaches, optimizing the use of existing internal communication channels in order to maximize audience reach and engagement.
  • Guide and coach leaders in their role as a communicator.
  • Work closely with the External Communications team to increase visibility of external messaging among employees and maximize content reach.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to align on communications strategy.

Writing, editing, and production

  • Promote employee advocacy by designing approaches centered on content-rich participative storytelling (developing an editorial approach, suggesting, writing, adapting, and editing content).
  • Draft, revise, edit, produce, and distribute a variety of communications intended for various internal audiences, according to communications strategy.
  • Perform quality control of documents for the company's internal communication channels for projects under responsibility or for which the team is a key partner.
  • Work with vendors to execute communications plans: translation, graphic design, video production, communications agencies, etc.
  • Adapt and respond effectively to urgency and changes in business needs.
  • Support the Manager, Internal Communications and the Director, Internal Communications with respect to event planning and coordination.

What you have to offer:

  • Post-secondary degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations / equivalent job experience
  • Minimum 8 years of corporate communications experience in a large corporation.
  • Experience in retail a strong asset.
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful internal communications strategies for large-scale initiatives.
  • Experience in developing creative communications assets across the full range of channels including print, digital and face-to-face.
  • Solid understanding of the online environment, social media tools and new technology with the ability to apply them to communications strategies.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills in English. French is a strong asset.
  • Event planning experience required.
