Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Production Area Coach (Refinery) to join our Refinery department at the Long Harbour Processing Plant. This fixed term position will be on a 12-hour schedule working in Long Harbour, NL. The Production Area Coach-Refinery is responsible for the overall performance, delivery, and development of the crew in meeting the organizational objectives based on the needs of the business stakeholders in alignment with Vale Vision, Mission & Values, and the Long Harbour Operations Purpose & Principles. In this position, you will:

  • Ensure Safe Production behaviors are integral in all crew member activity and coach crews to consistently achieve ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) and to take corrective action to address non-compliance.
  • Supervise daily work of production employees.
  • Lead and train Star Point (Personnel, Asset Care, Operations Planning, Responsible Care, Process) crew members to allow the self-management of related matters to ensure compliance to schedules, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Set expectations and hold people accountable for Core Value compliance (SHE/PSM, Ethics & Respect for People) and model the appropriate behavior.
  • Develop the crew to become self-sufficient in operating and maintaining the day-to-day operations, while ensuring that all regulations/standards, company and organizational concepts and philosophies.
  • Guide and audit the work practices utilizing VPS and 5S Work Practices to approve, plan, schedule and execute tasks within the area(s).
  • Create a work environment that generates ownership and initiative in crew members that are actively engaged and understand their role in sustaining the core processes.
  • Create a work environment where the crew is self-motivated to achieve targets, displays personal ownership and takes accountability for actions and performs to expectations.
  • Participate in emergency and breakdown situations as required, drawing on external resources only as necessary, by providing troubleshooting, problem identification, materials procurement, and resource allocation knowledge as required to correct the situation as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimize production impact within the framework of established maintenance policies and procedures.

About You

Education:

  • Post-secondary education within a related field is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills that are adaptable to function in all phases of an effective coach.
  • Effective team leader that will support and enhance their teams.
  • Well versed in various lab related procedures and techniques.
  • Have a consistent positive attitude towards work, including customer and peer relationships.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and team building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
