Description:

The City of Fredericton is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Project Engineer to deliver innovative and efficient transportation infrastructure solutions. This role requires a strong blend of strategic thinking, project management expertise, and development of critical roadway systems that enhance mobility, protect against flooding, and improve the quality of life in our community.

Position Specifications:

• Lead and Manage Roadway Operation design and construction projects from inception to completion.
• Coordinate progress payments for work completed by Contractors for Roadway Operations projects.
• Prepare and review engineering designs, specifications and plans for roadway operations projects.
• Develop project plan, schedules, budgets, and monitor progress against these benchmarks.
• Prepare programs for concrete renewal, asphalt resurfacing and storm sewer replacements.
• Develop and implement maintenance and operational strategies for roadway infrastructure.
• Provide technical expertise to roadway operations team for ongoing maintenance of roadway infrastructure and to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Identify and address operational issues and implement effective solutions.
• Provide technical research, advice, and respond to Council requests related to roadway infrastructure.
• Provide guidance and technical expertise related to the City's stormwater management system to create strategies for flood mitigation.
• Conduct safety audits and risk assessments and implement corrective solutions.
• Prepare and deliver project updates, identifying issues and proposing solutions to ensure timely completion and high-quality results.
• Research new equipment and materials related to winter activities.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience and experience with municipal operations. Eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGNB.

Knowledge and Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in and the safety precautions necessary for assigned work.
• Well developed interpersonal, communication problem solving, and analytical skills are required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Oral competency in both official languages will be considered an asset.
• Valid NB Class V drivers license.
• Ability to lead and manage large scale projects.
• Knowledge of relevant codes, standard and regulations for concrete renewal, asphalt resurfacing, and storm sewer replacement programs.
• Work closely with local authorities, community stakeholders, and public agencies to obtain permits, approvals, and funding for projects.
• Understanding of the City's overall stormwater management system.
• Strong understanding of industry regulations and standards, ensuring all projects are compliant.
• Skilled in verbal and written communication - able to work with internal teams, other divisions/departments, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution as well as provide project updates, reports, and presentations.
• Ability to work after hours, as an on-call employee for winter operations.
