Are you an experienced Automotive Service Technician with a passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of technicians? We are seeking a dedicated Instructor to join our team and provide hands-on training and education in automotive service. Position Type: Term - Part-time (18.125 hours/week)

Duration: September 2024 to May 2025

Location: Saint John

Salary Range: $28.39 to $40.00 per hour. Successful candidates may be eligible for a higher maximum step, up to $43.68 per hour, based on their level of post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

As part of the School of Trades and reporting to the Academic Chair of Transportation Trades, the instructor is responsible for the planning and preparation of instructional materials and resources; establishing and managing a positive learning environment; instructing and evaluating students; building and sustaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders; as well as other related duties.

Specific instructional areas and courses within the program may include but are not limited to:

  • Welding and Cutting
  • Auto Chassis
  • Brakes
  • Automotive Engines
  • Fuel Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Essential Skills
  • Ozone Depleting Substances
  • Math
  • Shop practice
  • Customer Relations
  • Other Trade-related Subjects as Required
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • A high school diploma, or equivalency, and a valid Automotive Service Technician Red Seal license with related years of work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of three (3) years of recent and related work experience at the Journeyperson's level, including the ability to inspect, diagnose, maintain and service current model vehicles in the automotive service industry.
  • Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.
  • Self-motivated, service and results oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • A desire for continuous learning and growth.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
