The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Project Lead, Project & Shutdown Management to join our Surface Plants Mines/Mill team in Sudbury. This is a full-time position.

The position is responsible for leading projects assigned by Project and Shutdown Superintendent including the management and co-ordination of all activities from FEL 3 through Execution. This includes management of detailed engineering design, procurement, project controls (Safety, Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost), systems, construction support and management services for individual Projects.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Execute approved Capital, Operating, and Period/Shutdown projects including related commissioning/ops readiness.

Safety

  • Lead PHRs, JHAs, MOCs, Lift Plans as required for the safe execution of the project.

  • Monitor and audit compliance to the safety controls, Project Safety Plan, and other Vale Standards

  • Monitor and audit External Service Providers' compliance to Safety Training Requirements (i.e. Norcat, Indoctrinations, ZES, etc.)

  • Issue the Notice of Project as directed by the Superintendent.

  • Supervise the safe execution of field project work (executed by external or internal resources) as required.

Scope

  • Develop the scope of work, work design planning and the execution phase of projects as assigned (Capital, Operating and Planned Maintenance Period)

  • Create work methodology for Risk Assessments (PHRs or JHAs)

  • Coordinate with Site Operations/Logistics to facilitate the project work being executed by External Resource Providers

  • Coordinate and resolve contract issues with support from peers (Engineering), Contract Management Office, Safety Supervisors and Procurement.

  • Monitor contractor work approvals, site access, quality, efficiency, qualifications, and safety.

  • Supervise project work (executed by external or internal resources) as required.

Schedule

  • Provide detailed project schedule to Scheduler and Superintendent on projects to be undertaken, identifying key milestones, resource requirements and completion date.

  • Provide updates to Scheduler and Superintendent on additional tasks required (FWI) to complete the project, along with impact to schedule and mitigation actions.

  • Provide detailed Work Designs (task, JHA's, materials) to project scheduler to adequately plan and schedule the work in SAP so that work can be integrated with the site scheduling activities.

Quality

  • Ensure adequate contractor audits for quality, qualifications, compliance, invoice auditing are performed including the support from the project engineer.

  • Perform end state audits for quality and operational readiness.

Cost

  • Manage, monitor, and report on project/shutdown cost and cash forecasting.

  • Monitor outstanding work and approve Estimated Service Entry Sheets

  • Liaise with Service Procurement Group while managing requisitions and performing Technical and Commercial Evaluations

  • Prepare and monitor funding request packages (AFE/APC) and follow asset capitalization process with support from other groups as required.

About You

Education:

  • Community College

  • Education in an engineering, technical or trades discipline is required. PMP Designation is an asset.

  • Technologist or Engineer (Peng) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience

Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in project management related role

  • Preferred knowledge and understanding of VPS Technical, project management principles and strategies and strong project management skills.
