Manager of Policy and Planning - Permanent Position

Salary Scale: (HL 21) $71,215 - $92,579 (subject to classification review)

NLSchools consists of 253 schools and 5 alternate sites, approximately 65,000 students, and more than 9,000 teachers, support staff, and administration.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the Manager of Policy and Planning is a challenging, responsible, highly independent, professional position requiring an understanding of education policy, social development, quantitative and qualitative research, as well as project management. The incumbent will also be responsible for planning and consultation with internal and external stakeholders in the development of NLSchools policy development and analysis.

The Manager of Policy and Planning will be accountable for:

  • Facilitating the development of the District's Strategic Plan;
  • Monitoring annual action plans related to the Strategic Plan;
  • Reviewing, developing and updating District policies and procedures in consultation with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ensuring District policies adhere to all legislative and regulatory requirements;
  • Providing advice and recommendations for appropriate action by preparing briefing notes, discussion papers, information packages, policy papers and presentations for District Leadership;
  • Managing and coordinating external strategic partnership initiatives.

Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate strong experience in strategic planning, policy development as well as analyzing and interpreting legislation. The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, management and executive staff in explaining practice, procedures, policies and decisions involving highly complex and/or sensitive situations.
  • High degree of professionalism.

These qualifications would normally be acquired through a university degree in a relevant field supplemented by progressively responsible experience.
